Peter Parker becomes Spider-Man. Hal Jordan transforms into the Green Lantern. And Oliver Richmond becomes UGA’s own Maverick.
Every game day, the Spike Squad Co-President dons his cape and signature Maverick helmet to hype up the crowd. Richmond, however, is one of the few people with multiple roles on football Saturdays. He coordinates the military jets that soar over Sanford Stadium before kickoff and trains the ROTC honor guard for university events.

Richmond’s game day activities start hours before the average fan. He joins the Spike Squad early in the morning to prep and cheer. Then, he breaks away to ready his ROTC flag detail and lead them onto the field. Finally, he sprints back to the student section to “paint up” and transform into his Maverick persona where he cheers for the rest of the game.
Richmond, who has already been selected to start as a commissioned drone pilot, plans to continue his military career after graduation, and one day use his skills to pilot a manned aircraft.

Richmond grew up next to an airbase where he watched fighter jets take off, cementing his dream of flying.

Richmond regularly flies planes out of Winder, Georgia.
