A dedicated Georgia fan since watching his first game at 4 years old, Hamilton Mason got an early start in his UGA career. Not only did he spend the next 14 years following every one of UGA’s football seasons, UGA was the only college he applied to.
“There was never any choice but Georgia for me,” he said. “Georgia football has been my life for as long as I can remember.”
Hamilton’s unwavering determination stems from his faith, which has always played a starring role in his life and helps him stay on the right path. Getting into his dream school and becoming a cheerleader are just a few of the things he attributes to it.
An athlete to the core, Hamilton spent his high school career competing in football, baseball, volleyball, and wrestling. Cheerleading was a surprising next step in his athletic journey, but although he had never cheered before starting at UGA, the sport has made the last two years of his time here so rewarding that he “can’t remember what life was like before.”
Hamilton is also the student-athlete liaison for UGA’s Student Government Association. He is currently working on an initiative to update absence policies for student-athletes and make sure they get the most out of both their athletic and academic lifestyles.
“I’ve always had a love for service, from the food pantry in my hometown to being a small group leader in high school. I want to leave an impact on communities by making sure they’re getting what they need.”

Many athletes have difficulty meeting their classes’ attendance requirements because of travel and training schedules. Hamilton is working to get students more leeway and make their assignments and testing deadlines more flexible.
While athletics has been a lifelong passion for Hamilton, faith and service are foundational for him. Hamilton has been a member of UGA Heroes, Criminal Justice Society, Delta Sigma Phi, and UGA Peer Mentors among other organizations, where he has served the community in as many ways as he can.
“I believe the basis for Christianity is love, and with love comes service. This love for people and for service is what drives me, and it’s why I am the person I am today.”
When the criminal justice major graduates, he plans to enroll in UGA’s Master’s in Public Administration program and pursue a career in nonprofit work. His mission? Helping inmates reenter society by connecting them with housing, rehab, and mental health services.
