Tight end Luckie is forging his own path.

Lawson Luckie is not the first Luckie Bulldog and won’t be the last.

The junior tight end is the son of Mike Luckie, part of the triplet brothers (along with Miles and Dustin) who played for the Bulldogs in the 1990s. And Lawson’s younger brother, Carter, one of the nation’s top defensive lineman recruits, has committed to play for the Bulldogs.

But when Lawson suits up for practice or game days, he’s not thinking about a family legacy or a personal one.

“I just think about what I have to do,” he says. “I just don’t waste a day. I want to get better every single day. The rest will take care of itself.”

That’s not to say that he doesn’t embrace his family.

“They mean everything to me,” Luckie says. “They do a great job of keeping me accountable.”

In addition to Carter, Luckie’s youngest brother is Cannon.

“I just want to make my little brothers proud,” he says.

Putting in the work

When he’s not catching an open field pass or pulling in a clutch sideline grab, Luckie is a communications major in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences.

“My goal is to be on TV one day, in broadcasting or on a sports talk show,” he says.

One of his favorite courses so far was an interpersonal communications class, taught by Kathleen Golden, a communications studies lecturer.

“It was such an interactive class,” he says. “We were always up and about, talking to each other, learning to speak with different types of people every day.”

Leading by example

In his first two years at UGA, Luckie has worked on building a routine as a student-athlete to manage his academic and athletic commitments.

Former Georgia tight ends Brock Bowers and Ben Yurosek taught by example how to make practice productive and make hard work count.

As a veteran player, Luckie knows he can be a model for the team this season, and he intends to make the most of it.

His goal?

“To be vocal, to be accountable, dependable, and just always be an energy guy.”
